From the Principal's Desk

Dear Wharton Families,

Monday is Martin Luther King Day, and all HISD campuses and district offices will be closed in observance of the holiday. There will be no classes for students on Tuesday, January 18 either as it is a teacher service day. Classes will resume on Wednesday, January 19.

Wharton will begin offering COVID testing to students who have a consent form on January 25. Please see Nurse Dana's notes for details.

Visit Marble Slab Creamery at 2035 W. Gray between 11:30 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. Tell the cashier you’re supporting the Wharton DLA. Our school will receive 15% of the proceeds. You can also order online, just make sure to include Wharton DLA in the notes before check-out. See flyer.

Blanket and Socks Drive
Help our Middle Schoolers and 3rd Graders collect new (or gently used) warm and cozy blankets and socks for men, women, teens, and children of all ages and sizes. Our goal is to collect 2022 blankets/pairs of socks. Please see the flyer for more details.

Save the Date for Our Wharton Eagle Fun Run

Our 2022 Wharton Eagle Run powered by Boosterthon is coming February 14-25! Get ready to help Wharton PTO reach its goal of raising $60,000 to complete Phase I of our upper grades playground, save for phase II, and make other playground improvements.

Your generous donations to our Wharton Eagle Runs and Dance Fit have allowed us to make additions to our Spark Park and begin the process of building our upper grades playground.

Nurse's Notes

Free COVID-19 testing for our students and staff will begin on campus on January 25, 2022. For your child to be tested, you must provide a one-time consent at: https://bit.ly/HISDC19Test.

Testing will be offered every week on Tuesday. If you have consented, your child will be tested. Their result will go to you. The campus nurse will also be able to access the results

Still not vaccinated? Many of you are finding out that if your child is not vaccinated and is exposed to COVID, they have to quarantine for 5 days. Getting them vaccinated keeps them in school and provides protection from the virus. You can view vaccination sites here.

4th Grade Mother's Day Cake Sale

It's never too early to start thinking about making Mother's Day special! Wharton DLA's 4th Graders are holding a Mother's Day Cake Sale to raise funds for a visit to the State Capitol.

For $10, you will receive a cake decorating kit that includes an 8-inch white cake and frosting in two colors.

Cakes will be delivered to the school for pick-up before Mother's Day.

Get a head start on the holiday by pre-ordering your cake kit.
