SUBJECT: Wharton DLA Newsletter 11.18.22

November 18, 2022
From the Principal's Desk

Dear Wharton Families,

The holiday season is upon us and with it comes a lot of busyness that can leave us and our children feeling overwhelmed. There are things we can do as families to feel more connected and have a more meaningful holiday season. As we head into Thanksgiving break, I wanted to share a few gratitude rituals that I recently came across. I hope you try some of them with your students.

  1. Have your family count your blessings by listing things you are grateful for.
  2. Comment with appreciation; your children will notice. "What a beautiful day! I love it when the sun is shining."
  3. Express thanks through service. Volunteer at a local organization, make cards for our troops, or bake treats to take to the fire station. Generation Serve is a local organization that has service opportunities for families.
  4. Spend time in nature and show your children to appreciate it and care for it.
  5. Help your kids write thank you notes to mail or deliver to someone who has done something kind for them.

I wish you all a happy and safe Thanksgiving. Enjoy the break!

Scholastic Book Fair

Dear Parents and Families,

I’m sending my sincere gratitude for making our Book Fair an outstanding success!

Thanks to your contributions at our fair, we raised over $2,991.915 for our school (total sales of $11,967.66 of which 25% will go to our school).

My reward for hosting a Book Fair was watching your kids discover new books. All that joy wouldn’t be possible without volunteers from our school community – you deserve my special thanks.

I hope to see you and your child at our next Fair. Until then, happy reading!

Gratefully,

Froilan Natividad
Book Fair Chairperson

Nurse's Notes

Your child’s immunizations need to be up to date!

Eleven and 12 year-olds need to have meningitis and tetanus boosters. Four-year-olds need their Tdap, polio, MMR, and Varicella shots. Please get these done as soon as possible. HISD has mandated that exclusion letters go out in December if your child is not up to date and you are not trying to get them up to date. Email me your updated records to dana.bethancourt@houstonisd.org.

The City of Houston wastewater studies prove that we have an uptick in COVID cases. Many people are not reporting due to home tests. Keep yourselves safe and get your boosters, keep your distance and mask up. Test yourselves before visiting anyone who is at higher risk. Better yet, if you are sick, stay home!

Sign up your students for free COVID testing here at Wharton every other Friday. You will get results within 24 hours.
