Dear Wharton Families,

This week, Wharton was recognized as an exceptional Imagine Learning school for the month of November. We are so proud of all our teachers and students.

As the holiday break draws near, we hope everyone stays safe and enjoys this special time. Please help us keep expectations high during this time. To ensure families have the most updated information, we are sharing the HISD attendance policy, which includes the 90% credit rule, and guidelines for excused and unexcused absences.

In addition, we are excited to share that HISD has partnered with BakerRipley Community Developers to introduce "Aprendamos Juntos," on-demand digital mini-ESL lessons for Spanish-speaking HISD parents and caregivers. Watch the video to learn more about this exciting initiative.

Elementary students will enjoy the story of greedy teenager Eboni Scrooge on a wild ride with three ghosts who teach her the true meaning of Christmas: generosity and goodwill toward all critters.

Save the date for PK-2nd grade "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!" winter musical.

The last day to drop off food and gift card donations for the Wharton holiday gift baskets is Wednesday, December 14.

We are still looking for a few more Wharton Angels to gift GIFT CARDS to unmatched selected Wharton Middle School students. Send your interest email to Ms. Murillo, mary.murillo@houstonisd.org. Wharton Angels already signed up should drop off their gifts at the main office between December 14 – 19.

Safety

On Thursday, we conducted a lockdown drill both to prepare staff and students for the process and to make improvements in our procedures where necessary. This was only a practice drill. There was no emergency threat. During this drill, the school closed down for a short period of time, including the main office, so that our staff and students could practice safety procedures.

In the event of an actual emergency, you will be notified by the school. As always, the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff are our number one priority at HISD.

We will continue to conduct drills like this in the future to make sure our school is prepared for any emergency situation.
