Wharton PTO Board Job Descriptions

WHARTON PTO Board Positions

The Wharton PTO board is comprised of the following positions:

  • President
  • President-Elect
  • Treasurer
  • Treasurer-Elect
  • Secretary
  • Member At-Large

According to our bylaws, we may have between 10 and 20 board members, elected annually.

Wharton PTO Board Committees


Executive Committee

Comprised of the President, President-Elect, immediate Past President, Secretary, Treasurer, Treasurer-Elect and no more than two other board members, as appointed by the President.

Nominating Committee
Comprised of the President, President-Elect, immediate Past President and at least two other board members, as appointed by the president and approved by the board.

Finance Committee
Comprised of the President, Treasurer, Treasurer-Elect and at least two other board members, as appointed by the President. The Finance Committee exercises general oversight over Wharton PTO's financial affairs and proposes an annual budget to the Board of Directors.

Fall Festival

Organizes and coordinates all aspects of producing our annual Fall Festival in October. Duties include running meetings, recruiting volunteers, securing donations, managing day-of-the-event logistics, etc.

 

Spring Gala

The Spring Gala is the PTO’s largest annual fundraising event. Committee chair will coordinate all aspects of producing the event and auction, including running meetings, recruiting volunteers, managing auction, securing donations, etc. 

 

Wharton Eagle Run with Boosterthon

Plans and coordinates all aspects of our Eagle Run with Boosterthon. Duties include working with the vendor, recruiting volunteers and sponsorships, plus running the event on the day(s) of the run. Currently raises funds for phase II of the upper grades playground.

 

¡Juntos! Annual Giving Fund 

Scheduling and promoting our year long arm-chair fundraising event in lieu of candy or popcorn sales. Primarily promoted in the fall and supports our International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program.

 

Communications

Create communications for PTO events, special announcements and weekly school email newsletter. Manage school’s Facebook page.

 

Hospitality

Assists with any hospitality events at Wharton helping create a welcoming atmosphere for students, parents and staff. Our hospitality team helps with school and teacher appreciation events throughout the school year such as Sunshine Cart and Teacher Appreciation Week.

 

Hispanic Heritage

Organizes a community event during Hispanic Heritage month, September 15 - October 15, and fosters community among native Spanish speakers at Wharton.

 

Technology

Creates all setup needed in our PTO website to support various functions like school store, fundraisers, newsletters, calendars, member boards and parent membership configurations among others.

 

School Store

Coordinate Wharton spirit wear design, orders, and sales. Wharton spirit wear includes T-shirts and promotional items that are sold to the school community.

 

Parent Ambassador Liaison

Serves as a communication link between class ambassadors (room parents) and the PTO for the school year. Duties include helping teachers designate or identify class ambassador(s), establishing email lists and communication channels to support class ambassadors in their efforts.

Spirit Nights

Organizes monthly Spirit Nights at local businesses in support of the school. Duties include identifying community businesses willing to partner with the school, scheduling and promoting the event.

 

Middle School Representative

A current middle school parent who serves as a link between the PTO and our Middle School teachers and parents.  

 

Wharton’s Dads’ Club

Organize and plan events to build community among Dads in our school community. 

 

Garden Committee

Organize work days for school beautification and garden maintenance on school grounds.  

 

Yearbook
Acts as the parent point person for the school yearbook. Works with yearbook production company representative and Wharton teachers to produce the yearbook. This includes promoting yearbook sales and distribution.
