From the Principal's Desk

Dear Wharton Families,

We loved seeing our students dress up for Red Ribbon Week. Thank you for your participation.

Next week is another exciting week at Wharton. We will host our Storybook Character Parade and our book fair at Barnes & Noble. At the book fair, you will have the opportunity to see our school orchestra and enjoy book readings by wonderful authors while supporting our school. I hope you will join us!

The HISD School Choice applications cycle will open in December this year and magnet tours will begin next month. Wharton will host its first magnet tour on Thursday, November 10. Please check our school website next week for updates.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Jennifer Day
Principal

November 2-17
Volunteering for the Scholastic Book Fair
We need volunteers to ensure our on-campus Scholastic book fair runs smoothly, including set-up and breakdown the week before and after the fair. Please sign up for a shift!

November 7-11, 8 AM - 4 PM
Scholastic Book Fair at Wharton DLA
The Wharton Scholastic Book Fair kicks off on November 7 at the Wharton library. Students may shop during school hours. Cash or e-wallet accepted. Parents are invited to shop with their students during one of our evening dates:

  • Monday, November 7, 5:45 PM – 7 PM
  • Thursday, November 10, 4 PM – 7 PM

Credit card/debit cards will be accepted from parents or buyers 18 years and older. Proceeds will benefit Wharton DLA.

eWallet: Make it easier for your students to make purchases and avoid them having to carry cash by creating a Scholastic e-wallet account. It's simple to sign up, makes it a breeze for the kids to pay during their school shopping sessions, and never expires.

Important Reminders

Parents may not drop off lunch for students during the school day. Our office staff cannot leave their posts to deliver lunches to students' classrooms. If your student forgets their lunch, we will make sure they are served a hot meal in the cafeteria on that day. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

GT & IB at Wharton

GT Testing
This school year, parents of 1st through 8th-grade students need to submit a request for GT testing. Please email your child's homeroom teacher and Ms. Silva to initiate the process. Then, submit a request through PowerSchool (see instructions). The 1st through 8th grade GT testing window will be from January 10 to February 11, 2023.

Nurse's Notes

Do you need help affording glasses for your child? Contact Nurse Dana at Dana.bethancourt@houstonisd.com by November 7 so your child can be included in the See to Succeed program field trip in January.

If your child failed the vision test, I will send home consent next week.

Help Me Become a Certified Red Cross Instructor
Thank you to all the Wharton families who have supported my DonorsChoose project to help me become a certified Red Cross instructor! I am $211 away from fully funding my project. Today, October 28, is the last day to have your donation doubled thanks to DonorsChoose. Just enter the code LIFTOFF on the payment page and you'll be matched dollar for dollar (up to $50). Any contribution helps.
