SUBJECT: Wharton DLA Newsletter 04.30.21

Friday, April 30, 2021
From the Principal's Desk

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We celebrate our teachers year-round, but as Teacher Appreciation Week begins on Monday, we want to take the opportunity to celebrate our all-star teachers even louder!

Our teachers truly are the heart and soul of Wharton, and over the past year have stepped up as true team players for our students and families. Teachers have transitioned to virtual learning and back again, often teaching two classes at once—one at home and one in-person.

Let's show our teachers and staff that they are an important part of our team and cheer them on all week long! Below, we included information about how we'll be celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week at Wharton. Take a look and make sure to participate however you can!

HISD's partners at Good Reason Houston are also hosting a variety of giveaways and virtual events for teachers all week. You can visit theironline appreciation hubto download Zoom backgrounds, customizable signs and special thank you cards. Also, take a look atvideofrom Dr. Lathan.

Finally, if you haven't already, please fill out this survey from HISD: Parent & Family Engagement Survey 20-21. Thank you!

Have a nice weekend!

Ms. Jennifer Day

COVID-19 Updates

We need about 75-85% (230-280 million) of the entire US population (330 million) to have immunity to contain CoVid-19. WE are getting close. Read this article if you are interested in learning more about "herd immunity."

Please get vaccinated! Unfortunately, our students can’t be vaccinated yet and can still spread COVID. According to the new CDC guidelines for vaccinated people, you can be outside without a mask. Please continue to use physical distancing when waiting for your students outside.
