Last Friday our Hispanic Heritage Night filled the gym with color, music, and irresistible aromas—an unforgettable celebration of Hispanic culture with our diverse Wharton community! πŸŒŸπŸŽ‰

Families shared the flavors, décor, and traditions of Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Peru, El Salvador, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Spain, Italy, and Argentina—plus vibrant tables from Persia and Asia featuring Iran, China, Pakistan, Vietnam, and Kazakhstan. πŸŒŽπŸ’ƒπŸ½πŸŽΆ

πŸ† The Winners πŸ†

  • Best Table: Dominican Republic

  • Best Dish: Chilaquiles (Mexico)

  • Best Dessert: Rice Pudding (Pakistan)

Kids loved the Travel-Passports game—stamping their way around the world. βœˆοΈπŸ›‚

A heartfelt thank-you to our school admin and staff. Above all, I’m so grateful to every parent, student, grandparent, and volunteer who gave it their all. As Adriana Yzquierdo, my co-chair, said: “The food was absolutely delicious, the energy was incredible, and it was truly a family effort.” 🫢🏽❀️

Join us for our Annual Hispanic Cultural Heritage Potluck, Lotería & Bingo

  • WHEN: Friday, September 12
  • TIME: 5:30 – 7:30 PM
  • WHERE: WDLA Gym

Enjoy a night full of music, folkloric dancers, delicious traditional foods, and games like Lotería and Bingo — with prizes for the winners! πŸ†

 

And don’t forget… we’ll also have a friendly competition for Best Table and Best Dish. Who will take the crown this year? πŸ‘‘

How You Can Get Involved

Be part of the fun and help us showcase the rich diversity of our community — Hispanic cultures and beyond — including Asian, Persian, and other global cultures that make WDLA so special:

  • Join a Host Country Table

    Represent Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina, Peru, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, as well as Asian and Persian, or any other global culture in our community!

    • Food: Cook up your favorite dish or snack to share with approximately 20 people

    • Not a cook? No worries! Bring plates, napkins, cups, drinks, or utensils — it’s a team effort. πŸ˜„ (sign up here)

    • Decor: Add decorations that show off your culture’s beauty

    • Clothing: Wear traditional attire or a fun accessory to show your pride

    • Art: Share crafts, artwork, or other cultural treasures

  • Volunteer with the Committee
