Parents, Guardians and Students,
Hope you all had a great first week of school! As we move forward through August, here are a few reminders and tips to keep our students healthy this school year:
- Does your child need medication at school or has a major health condition?
- Contact me at 713-556-5162 or darcy.larotta@houstonisd.org to discuss the process.
- FYI: Even over-the-counter medications (such as cough drops or Tylenol) require a doctor’s order if given at the school.
- Immunization Records
- Make sure your immunizations are up to date. Bring a copy as soon as they are updated. HISD has very strict immunization requirements: School and Childcare | Texas DSHS
- Heat Advisories!
- Have your child wear sunscreen, hat, and glasses. Also be sure each child brings a water bottle to school and reinforce hydration at home. Staff & teachers are aware of “Excessive heat” days and outdoor activities will be limited.
- Sign up for Hazel Health here.
- It allows your child to visit a clinician via telehealth and receive over-the-counter medication to keep them in school. It is free regardless your insurance status.
- Food Allergies: Life threatening food allergies on campus! See reminders to keep all our students safe:
- Please remind your children NOT to share food and check with your teacher before sending snacks to the classroom.
- Store bought items with the ingredients listed are the only acceptable snacks (except fruits and vegetables)
- Peanuts and tree nuts (i.e. Almonds, cashews, etc. are the most common allergen here at Wharton. Avoid packing them in your child's lunch kit for everyone's safety.
- See the Texas Health and Human services website for more information.
